The word Podcast is a combination of iPod and broadcast. Like the word "radio," podcast can mean both the content and the method of delivery. Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs, over the Internet for playback on mobile devices (iPods and MP3 players) and personal computers. Typically, a podcast features one type of "show," with new episodes delivered regularly. Podcasts are distributed over the Internet through an RSS feed. The advantage of transferring podcasts to an MP3 player is that you can then listen to them at your convenience or while on the move.

 RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats used for Web syndication. RSS provides web content via links to the full version and other associated metadata. RSS in particular delivers this information as an XML file called an RSS feed.
In addition to facilitating syndication, RSS feeds allow listeners to track updates and receive automatic delivery of new content directly to their computers and MP3 players.
Listeners can sign up at no charge for RSS feeds through free pod casting aggregator services, such as iTunes.
