The usual endoscopic appearance is a salmon-rose-colored mucosal patch with a sharp
border or edge in the esophagus. Although the malignant potential is thought to be
extremely low, there are nevertheless several reports of adenocarcinoma arising in
heterotopic gastric mucosa.
