Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is advocated as a superior treatment approach
for large laterally spreading colorectal lesions (LSL). Its key advantage over e-field
endoscopic mucosal resection (WF-EMR) pertains to en bloc resection and potential
cure of low risk submucosal invasive cancer. ESD has a steep learning curve, high
cost and greater risk of signficant adverse events. The applicability and cost implications
of colorectal ESD is yet to be determined.
