Top tips on endoscopic vacuum therapy (with video)

Published:February 22, 2022DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.gie.2022.02.020
Endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) is a new procedure for GI endoscopy. EVT essentially allows physicians to create an endoscopic version of a “wound vac” to promote drainage and healing of extraluminal abscesses that are often associated with perforations. The technique is, as of this moment, fully nonstandardized but has been used to great effect around the world to treat patients with few other clinical options, many of whom have complex problems and are poor surgical candidates. In this issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, we present a Top Tips article to cover the nuts-and-bolts of how to think about and perform EVT. The tools required are in every GI lab, and all that is needed on the physician side is a willingness to try something truly different.
